CLICK ON "ROAD PHOTOS" I like photography, so I wanted to put up a few of my favorite pictures from the road. They are fairly recent shots. Someday  I will dig back into my 35 mm pictures and scan in some old ones that I think might interest you.

Thanks for visiting, be well... Ron

This is my way to share my music with family and friends. Songs will be up-loaded as I record them, OR when the earth cools..... Which ever comes first

These songs are the foundation of my upcoming CD " BETTER LATE THAN NEVER" which will be published through BIG TRUK MUSIC and available on-line.

"BETTER LATE THAN NEVER"  will contain songs with a leaning toward folk rock and blues. The retro sound is due in part to the use of a Rickenbacker 12 string electric guitar. This guitar is a limited edition instrument commissioned by Roger McGuinn (The Byrds) Roger and I have met on a number of occasions, and I thank him for the pointers he gave me on his unique picking style - and for being a friend.

I am very proud to have received this letter from General H. Norman Schwarzkopf.

During the Gulf War, one of my sons was called to active duty as an MP. My way of partially dealing with the anxiety and sadness of him going over there was to make a tape of some original songs for him to take with him. Troy is also a musician, and was pretty familiar with the original songs on the tape.

For the occasion, I decided to write and ad a new song expressing how I felt over this his having to go to war. After the majority of the hostilities were over, I felt pretty comfortable that the worst was past danger wise and only then I allowed myself to get somewhat comfortable. I asked Troy if he minded if I played this song for other family's we associated with who also had people over there. He was okay with that and I played it for a support group of military families. I was surprised that it seemed to have such a profound effect on some family members, but I was glad because most liked the message and could identify with it.

He's My Son was recorded on a home cassette tape recorder with a low end microphone and a total lack of enhansing gear, so it obviously was not the recording or sound quality which propelled it. I sent a copy to the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service where they introduced it into their play list. That was a huge honor and privilege. After receiving a note from Stormin' Norman (who I also sent a tape to) I was given opportunities to go on local TV and radio talk programs, and the song hit airplay on area radio stations as well.

All this was very good publicity because at the time we were planning a celebration for the returning soldiers, and for all veteran soldiers from all wars. The positive press and attention from the CT National Guard surely helped when it came time for military assets and news coverage during our July 4th event in 1991 ;-)  Lot's of parade equipment, military demonstrations and A10 Jets.

It was a good forth of July in Coventry, CT

Country & folk music days. Late 80's, early 90's

Ron & Frank, co-founders of "Sound Judgment"
The whole gang, early 70's
SOUND JUDGMENT
Our band between 1971 and 1973. "SJ" was started in December of 1971 by Frank Tranes and I. The band originally included Frank, Ed Beattie, Dennis MacPherson, Karen Anderson and myself. The picture on the left was taken at a concert at "Eagleville Speedway" in Mansfield, CT. The one on the right, in ski country. We eventually had a pretty steady run @ the beaches and ski resorts, while the local road houses paid the bills.

Here are some "Live cuts" from Sound Judgment Live 1972. They were likely done at the Submarine base in Groton, CT The Rocking Horse in Hartford, CT and the Crystal Ballroom in Ellington, CT.These were recorded with 2 microphones onto a stereo 2 track home reel to reel machine by a dear friend now deceased. George Barusso or "GB" was our road  manager and began experimenting with live recording in 72. GB went on to perfect his skill and later did sound and recording for Thunder Road, Electric Cowboy and others. I hear these cuts and while the quality is limited by the equipment, I have to smile remembering GB walking back and forth in front of the band listening for just the right spot to place those 2 tiny microphones.

Frank, co-founder and bass player had serious musical training so we must have frustrated him more than we ever knew with our approach to new songs. We would pick a comfortable (or do-able) vocal key, run through it a few times then say, "Good enough - we can tighten the song up at the gigs". Frank also brought the flute to our band. A bit of sophistication for a bunch of loud jam band musicians.

Ed our lead player actually could pick with his teeth! Not hold a pick, but actually bite the strings. Ed played better and faster with his teeth than most other players could play with their hand... ( I am obviously biased toward this gang )

Also no longer with us is my  friend and SJ drummer George Harakaley. George was also (unknown to most people) a pretty good piano player. He always wanted to play drums for a living, and so he did...

Thanks my SJ friends.

To GB and George Harakaley
God Bless, you are missed.
